Computer keeps updating shutdown

Just did a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate after procrastinating for years on my old Pentium 4 computer with XP.Of course there were alot of updates and I allowed all the critical ones to install, at least I thought they did.I then checked update to download but ask to install any new ones.
